Mark comes from a musical family and one of his earliest musical influences was his grandfather who was a fiddler in the Appalachian tradition. Some of his grandfather's music was of Irish and Scottish origin in the old fiddle styles that were brought to America by early immigrants.This exposure shaped Mark's mastery of this style of music. Mark is also a respected fiddler in the New England contra dance fiddle style.

Mark has toured America, Canada, and Europe in his musical career. He is a talented multi-instrumentalist and plays fiddle, guitar, bass, mandolin, button accordion, octave mandolin, and mandola.
